Selected as a Ward Foundation Living Legend in 2016, Del Herbert has been carving since 1985. He has won more than 250 blue ribbons and 120 best in show awards, and his work has been juried into the permanent collection of the Smithsonian Institution. He won the Ward World Championship for Shootin’ Rigs in 1998 and 2010. We asked him about the state of the art of wildfowl carving—where it’s been, where it is, and where it might be going.
