A Day for Wildfowl Carving
There are many people out there who have no idea that wildfowl carving exists. When they do come across a beautiful carving—perhaps at a show, or maybe in someone’s home—they are often completely blown away by the encounter. “I didn’t know you could do that!” is a typical reaction.
How do we reach these people? One thing I would like to do is start an International Wildfowl Carving Day, a grassroots effort to get word out about the art form. The idea is that carvers all over the United States, Canada, and the world tell their stories about carving and display their work—on Facebook and other social media, in local media (news shows and newspapers), and in local schools and libraries where they can provide demonstrations or exhibitions. Carving clubs and shows could also get involved. Our sister magazine, Rug Hooking, participates in an International Rug Hooking Day, so it seems natural to do something similar for bird carving.
